EP Editorial Estimator v1.10
This page offers the EP Editorial Estimator. This is a tool developed by Ken Richardson to help photographers sharpen their negotiation skills.
Instructions:Enter the magazine circulation, ad rate, and the currency exchange rate (should be 1.00 for US dollars) then click on the bluespace to perform the calculations for assignment and space rates. There is a calculation button on the bottom of the web page if clicking on the bluespace fails to work. To calculate reprint and web rate, fill in the corresponding information. The height and width parameter are only needed for the custom image size under web rates.
This model represents a space against assignment rate usage model, not the traditional day rate model. As such, the price structure is different to which most photographers are accustomed. The price is derived from the ad rate and the circulation of the magazine in question, a more accurate way to price photography.
Note: For the calculations to work properly, one must always enter the circulation and ad rate for the magazine.
If you don't, it will seem like you are working for a newspaper.
To calculate the:
- Assignment Rate - enter the magazine circulation and ad rate and then click calculate.
- Space Rates - enter the magazine circulation and ad rate.
- Reprint Rates - enter the magazine circulation, ad rate, and quantity of reprints.
- Web Rates - enter the magazine circulation, ad rate, and months (duration) of use.
- Web Rates (custom) - enter the magazine circulation, ad rate, months (duration) of use, the height (in pixels), and width (in pixels) of the image.
- Foreign Editions - enter the above required numbers and the number of foreign editions requested. One will also need to enter a custom multiplier in the space, reprint, and web modifier boxes depending upon the country involved.
